Metro Board Authorizes Cost Sharing Agreement To Repair The Famous Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Metro Board of Directors recently approved the execution of the cost sharing agreement with the Hollywood Historic Trust to facilitate ongoing maintenance, repairs and replacement to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  The Metro Board has agreed to fund $1.5-million towards the cost of repairs in the vicinity of the Hollywood/Highland and Vine Stations on the Metro Red Line.

In April 2008, the Metro Board of Directors instructed the Chief Executive Officer to take a leadership role in repairs to the terrazzo sidewalks that make up the Walk, and to submit a funding plan subject to Board approval.  The total cost of the repairs is approximately $4.1 million. ...

Emmy-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, September 11, 2011. He was joined by his partner, David Burke, with whom he has adopted two children.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame consist of 2450 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along fifteen blocks of Hollywood Blvd. and three blocks of Vine Street, in Hollywood. 

The Walk of Fame runs 1.3 miles east to west on Hollywood Boulevard from North Gower Street to north La Brea Ave., plus a short segment of Marshfield Way that runs diagonally between Hollywood and La Brea; and 0.4 miles north to south on Vine Street between Yucca Street and Sunset Blvd.

Unquestionably, the most exciting events that occur in Hollywood today are the Hollywood Walk of Fame dedication ceremonies.  These events honor celebrities in five categories of entertainment,: Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording and Live Theater/Performance.  Since the first Walk of Fame stars were placed in the Hollywood Blvd. sidewalk, in 1958, there have been 2449 stars placed in Hollywood’s terrazo sidewalk -- the last being Jon Cryer.  The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is responsible for the selection of the recipients and installation of the brass stars.  The celebrity, or his/her agent or sponsor is responsible for the cost of the star and ceremony, which amounts to approximately $30,000.
