There are more than 9,000 historical photos of Hollywood, including such categories as Hollywood Blvd., Ciro's Nightclub, Hollywood Canteen and the Hollywood Studio Club. 

Cocoanut Grove Nightclub Photographs

The Cocoanut Grove, located in the ambassador hotel, on Wilshire Boulevard, was one of Hollywood's most popular nightclubs. After it was opened in 1921, management realized that it needed to be expanded due to its popularity. So the grand ballroom was converted into the 1000-seat Cocoanut Grove.  Thus, was the start of one of the most spectacular nightclubs in Los Angeles.

The decor of the Cocoanut Grove was of a tropical scene with palm trees scattered throughout the night club.  It was the "hotspot" of Hollywood's society. Many of Hollywood's most popular celebrities, also, patronized the very popular nightspot.

The hollywoodphotographs.com website has many photos of the interior of the Cocoanut Grove, along with many of the celebrities who went there. There is a photograph of Sonja Henie surrounded by several of her admirers. There's also, a photo of Bette Davis sitting at a table with her date. Photo number RN-040-9 shows the nightclubs Marquis with the name of Nat King Cole surrounded by lights. Another photo shows actress, Jean Harlow with her date, William Powell posing for the camera man. Ray West, and his Coconut Grove orchestra is also shown in one of the photos.

Hollywood Fire Station Photos

Another category of photos on the hollywoodphotographs.com website is Hollywood fire stations. The first fire station in Hollywood, was located on Cahuenga Avenue just south of Hollywood Boulevard. The building house both the Police Department and the fire department. The police occupied the second floor while the firemen occupied the first. Some time in the late 1920s, the fire department and the police department realized they needed to have their own buildings. The police built a building at the corner of Wilcox Avenue and DeLongpre Ave. while the fire department built their fire station on Cahuenga Avenue, just behind the police station. Some of the early photos of the Hollywood fire department, on the hollywoodphotographs.com website show several firetrucks and firefighters standing in front of the fire house. Photo number FS-005 shows the fire station on Cahuenga Ave. Photo number FS-013 shows the new fire station built in 1933.

Gilmore Field Photographs

the same year that farmers market opened, oil tycoon Earl Gilmore built the Gilmore field. It was here that the Hollywood stars baseball team played baseball while in the Pacific Coast league. The baseball teams ownership redlined a Hollywood "Who's Who" which included such celebrities as George Burns, Gracie Allen, Gary Cooper, Cecil B DeMille, Walt Disney, George Stevens, and Bing Crosby. The photographs of Gilmore Field, that are on the hollywoodphotographs.com website, show the Hollywood stars baseball team at play, the exterior of the Stadium and people in the audience. Photo GF-005 shows the baseball field while GF-014-1 shows the exterior of Gilmore Field. There are about 30 photographs of the Hollywood stars baseball team and Gilmore Field.

Garden of Allah Hotel Photographs

The Garden of Allah Hotel, on Sunset Boulevard, was not only one of the most popular hotels in Hollywood, it was also, one of the most notorious. It was built in 1921 by the popular actress Alla Nazimova whose acting career had been experiencing a decline. After her death in 1945, the Garden of Allah Hotel continued as a hotel and sanctuary for many of Hollywood's famous celebrities. In the 32 year span of its life, the hotel witnessed robbery, murder, drunkenness, orgies, suicides, and despair. Among those who frequently stayed at the famous hotel were Ramon Navarro, Errol Flynn, F Scott Fitzgerald, Robert Benchley, and Tallulah Bankhead. There are many photos of the hotel on the hollywoodphotographs.com website, and they include images of the exterior, interior and the pool area. Photograph HA-014-1 shows the front of the Garden of Allah Hotel, whileHA-014-8 shows the backyard and the pool.
