HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME'S FIRST INDUCTEE

A  tribute to over 2000 artists who have made significant contributions to  film, radio, television,  theater and the recording industries. The first star placed in September 1958, was for Joanne Woodward. Just as the First Federal Building was being completed, the Walk of Fame sidewalk, in front and side of the building was being finished. C.E. Toberman and Harry Sugarman asked Joanne Woodward to come and pose by her Walk of Fame star.  She did and now she has the honor of being the first celebrity to have a Walk of Fame ceremony. One of  Hollywood's most popular tourist attractions, the Walk of Fame lies on both sides of Hollywood Blvd. from Gower to La Brea, both sides of Vine Street and from Yucca to Sunset.

To be inducted into Hollywood's Walk of Fame sidewalk, the world's most famous sidewalk, is an honor  as coveted and sought after as any of the entertainment industry's equally prestigious awards -- including the Oscar or Emmy, Grammy. And, because it recognizes a life-long contribution of both public and peer appreciation, it is an honor uniquely in a class by itself. The Walk of Fame is a permanent monument of the past, as well as the present.

Envisioned in 1958 as a lasting tribute to the personalities who helped make Hollywood the most famous community in the world, the Walk of Fame continues today as Hollywood's most popular tourist attraction.  During the past 50 years, there have been more than 2500 entertainment personalities honored by the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Today, there are about two dozen new celebrities inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, each year.
