The Hollywood Bowl is, argueably, the most famous ampitheater in the country. The first Easter Sunrise Service was held in 1921 and has been held every year since then. Here is a play being performed in 1922.

The real estate development called Hollywoodland was founded in 1923 and was the first tract to be built in the Hollywood Hills. To advertise their development, the developers erected a sign with fifty foot high letters. The sign spelled HOLLYWOODLAND. In 1949, the last four letters were removed and the sign refurbished. Ever since then, the sign has read HOLLYWOOD.

The first Santa Claus Lane Parade was started in 1927, when a sleigh with wheels, was dragged down Hollywood Blvd. by two reindeer. Here is actress, Jayne Mansfield, waiving to the crowd during her trip down Hollywood Blvd. in 1956.

Ciro's Nightclub on Sunset Blvd. was one of Hollywood's most famous and popular nightspots in the world. Here are husband and wife, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard enjoying each others company in 1940.
