Hollywood Restaurant And Nightclub Photos

The largest collection of Hollywood restaurants is on the hollywoodphotographs.com website. There are more than 450 photos of 95  past and present Hollywood restaurants ane nightclubs.  One of the most famous nightclubs was Ciro's Nightclub on Sunset Boulevard. Opened in January, 1940 by William Wilkerson, the club was an immediate success. Many of Hollywood's most glamorous celebrities visited Ciro's on a nightly basis. The nightclub boasted of some of the finest entertainers to perform on a regular basis. Some included Sammy Davis Jr., Sophie Tucker, Peggy Lee, and Liberace. After more than 25 years of operation, the club closed in 1958.

Other restaurants and nightclubs on Sunset Boulevard included Mocambo, Cafe Trocadero, and La Rue.  All of these restaurants were popular with the Hollywood community, including hundreds of  Hollywood celebrities.

Not all of Hollywood's fine restaurants and nightclubs were on Sunset Boulevard. The Brown Derby, Cocoanut Grove,  Montmartre, and Musso Franks Grill  were located in and about the Hollywood area.

Movie Making Photographs

Some of the most popular photos on the hollywoodphotographs.com website are of moviemaking. These are photos where the photographer is standing behind the cameras, actors, director and movie set and taking photos of moviemaking. There are about 600 vintage photographs in the moviemaking category of the website. Many of the photos were taken during the filming of silent movies. These photos show the crude and rudimentary movie platforms, cameras and actors performing on the stage. Other photos show the cameras that were used when early talking movies came into existence. Many of these cameras were enclosed in large boxes to prevent the noise of the camera from being picked up by the microphone. There are scores of photographs of moviemaking at Mack Sennett Studios,  Clune film producing company, Republic Studios, Famous Players Lasky and MGM Studios.

Pan Pacific Auditorium Photograph

The Pan Pacific Auditorium was one of Hollywood's most popular venues for all types of entertainment. Opened in 1935, the auditorium played host to everything from auto shows, ice skating, basketball, professional tennis, political rallies, hockey, and circuses.  Many vintage and historic photos are on the hollywoodphotographs.com website and include images of people on ice skates, basketball games and car shows. The Pan Pacific Auditorium was very close to the  Gilmore Field and Gilmore Stadium. Probably one of the most famous concerts was put on, starring Elvis Presley. As time went on the old  auditorium began to deteriorate due to age and neglect. A fire in May 1983 damaged the northern and. On the evening of May 24, 1989 the auditorium was destroyed in a spectacular fire. the only portion of the Pan Pacific Auditorium that remained standing where the famous towers that were located at the front of the building.

Vintage Hollywoodland Photographs

One of the most successful real estate developments in the Hollywood area was Hollywoodland.  Located at the northern and of Beachwood Drive, in the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywoodland development was founded in 1923. In an effort to advertise the development, the owners erected the Hollywoodland sign on the face of the hills just above the real estate tract. The development was an immediate success and attracted several Hollywood celebrities and civic leaders to build homes in the development.  Some of the rarest photos of Hollywoodland are on the hollywoodphotographs.com website.
