The largest collection of old Hollywood images is hollywoodphotographs.com.  With over 12,000 images in the collection, the owner, Bruce Torrence has put over 6,000 photographs on his web site.

He began collecting historic Hollywood photographs in the very early 1970s after his grandfather, Charles E. Toberman showed him about 30 photos he had in office.  Upon seeing these photos, Bruce began collecting old Hollywood images from every source available.  His desire was to build the largest collection of Hollywood photographs in the world.  After collecting for about three or four years, he began going around Hollywood taking pictures.  He felt that the photos he took would, at some point in the future, become historic images.  Over the course of the next twenty five years, he took over 3,000 photos of everything in Hollywood.  Of all the photographs he took, probably the most important were the one of the demolition of the old Hollywood Sign and the building of the new sign in 1978.  When the sign was unveiled to the public, Bruce was across the canyon taking photos.  One of the photos he took has appeared in books, television shows, newspapers and movies.

Beginning in about 1975, Bruce made the collection available to the public so the photos could be purchased.  In the beginning, customers would have to come to the collection's office to view and purchase the images. This continued until 2000, when the internet really began to take hold.  Bruce developed a web site, with the domain name of hollywoodphotographs.com and began selling old Hollywood images to customers all over the world.

There are about ninety subject categories on the hollywoodphotographs.com web site. Hollywood Sign, Ciro's Nightclub, Hollywood Blvd. Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, Hollywood Canteen and Restaurants/Nightclubs are just a few of the subject categories from which to choose.

Photos can be purchased for either personal or commercial use.  A choice of digital images or actual print images are available.  Some of hollywoodphotographs.com's customers include Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Paramount Studios, Architectural Digest, Disney Corp and countless authors and publishers.
