Rare Hollywood Studio Photos

California Studios

1925: This is a rare photo of the California Studios and Bishoff Studios, located on Gower St, just south of Sunset Blvd. The studios were owned and opeerated by film maker & pioneer Sam Bishoff. From the hollywoodphotographs.com website.

Christie Studios

1916: This is a rare photo of the Christie Film Co. & Nestors Comedies, located on the northwest corner of Sunset Blvd. & Gower St.. This the location where the Nestors Film Company established a studio in October 1910. From the hollywoodphotographs.com website.

Intolerance movie set

1916: This is the Babylon movie set for D. W. Griffith"s film, "Intolerance". Located near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. & Sunset Blvd. it was one of the largest movie set ever built. From the hollywoodphotographs.com website.

Jesse Lasky Feature Film Co.

1913: The Jesse Lasky Feature Film Co. sent Cecil B. DeMille to Hollywood to establish a studio and begin making movies. He leased a barn from Jacob Stern, which was located on the southeast corner of Vine St. & Selma Ave. The barn served as DeMille's office, prop room, and dressing rooms. Pickford & Fairbanks Studio

The husband and wife team of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks formed a movie studio in 1921. Located on Santa Monica Blvd., justs west of La Brea Ave., it was here that Fairbanks made some of his most famous films such as, "Robin Hood" and "The Thief of Bagdad".
